I completed the seven (7) Catrinas I had sketched on small wood plaques in seven (7) days! I neglected to post them as I finished them but they were so much fun to paint, I hope you enjoy them as well. I plan on doing another set of five (5) in September. I would do them this month but I am already committed to other projects.
If you know anything about the "Day of the Dead" or more appropriately "Dia de los Muertos" you will know that a Catrina is a woman that paints her face to look something like a skull, embellished with lilies and marigolds and designs, as a represention of those that have passed away. This holiday honors our passed love ones as well as our ancestors. It is a marvelous tradition and a great way of keeping alive the memory of those no longer with us, especially for our children.
(Shameless promotion--All these are available as original paintings as well as prints. Thank you for stopping by!)
